Captain Underpants and a New Orleans-style Monster Ball -- Halloween time is here for kids at Symphony Space!

Symphony Space celebrates the spooky season with literary and musical events for kids and their families. For more information and advance tickets, visit www.symphonyspace.org/genre/family.

For those ages 8 and up, a Thalia Kids' Book Club event on Sunday, October 25 at 4 pm:

Guys Read: Terrifying Tales

All tickets: $15 ($12 for members)

Contributors to the latest book in the Guys Read series, Jon Scieszka (The Stinky Cheese Man), Adam Gidwitz (A Tale Dark and Grimm), Daniel José Older (Half-Resurrection Blues), Michael Buckley(The Sisters Grimm), Rita Williams Garcia (One Crazy Summer), Kelly Barnhill (The Witch's Boy) and Dav Pilkey (Captain Underpants) present a bone-chilling collection of original ghost stories perfect for sharing around the campfire, reading under the covers with a flashlight, and scaring your friends' pants off.

The afternoon will include a Halloween costume contest (the winner receives a full set of the Guys Read series), readings by the guest authors, an audience Q&A and a fun writing activity where kids will get the opportunity to write their own scary tale. A book signing follows the event, which is co-presented with Bank Street Bookstore.

For families with kids ages 2 and up - join the Second Line on Halloween morning!

Saturday, October 31 at 11 am : 'Monster Gras' with Jazzy Ash and the Leaping Lizards

Celebrate Halloween Crescent City style with Jazzy Ash and her five piece band The Leaping Lizards -- the first and only New Orleans music band just for kids. Ash and her band are celebrating the release of a new album called Bon Voyage, and this show offers a morning of Halloween inspired songs with a classic New Orleans twist. With her strong alto vocals and happy ukulele strums, Jazzy Ash leads a multi-instrumental experience. The band plays guitar, banjo, accordion, fiddle, bass, trombone, saxophone, washboard and drums. Everyone in the band is also a music educator, which means that kids will not only be dancing, but they'll also learn about New Orleans culture along the way. The audience is invited to come in costume. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Tickets: $15 ($13 members)
