Katie Holmes to Play Jackie Kennedy in New History Channel Miniseries

According to published reports, former All My Sons star Katie Holmes will play Jacqueline Kennedy in A New Television miniseries, "The Kennedys" for the History Channel.  The eight-hour miniseries - the first for the History Channel - will also star Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy. The series is written by Steve Kronish and directed by Jon Cassar, who collaborated on "24."  An air time is set for 2011.

The series will also star Barry Pepper ("Saving Private Ryan") as Robert Kennedy and Tom Wilkinson ("John Adams") as Joe Kennedy Sr.

According to Variety, "'The Kennedys' will explore the personal relationships between the Kennedy clan -- including John's and Bobby's tumultuous relationship with their father."

Joel Surnow, a known conservative and force behind "24," executive produces alongside JoNathan Koch, Steve Michaels, Jon Cassar, Michael Prupas and Jamie Paul Rock. 

As BroadwayWorld recently reported, Academy and Olivier Award winning actress Rachel Weisz will star in the upcoming, unrelated film about the former First Lady entitled "Jackie," directed by Darren Aronosky and written by Noah Oppenheim. "Jackie" tells the story of the Jacqueline Kennedy in the days after President Kennedy's assassination, following the First Lady as she goes from Dallas and through her husband's funeral.
