SMASH star Katharine McPhee lends her preeminent pop vocal prowess to the Death Cab For Cutie confection "Some Boys" on an upcoming episode of the musical drama series, as a new clip just released by NBC reveals.

In this solo performance, Karen (McPhee) serenades newfound romantic interest and budding musical theatre composer Jimmy (Jeremy Jordan) while he cleans up his apartment and arranges his sheet music, advising her, "Stay where I can see you." The ties that bind the couple increase week by week, as Jimmy continues work in preparing his contemporary-sounding new concept musical THE HIT LIST and Karen buoys him up while he battles his demons and addictions.

"Some boys are singing / Some boys are singing the blues," indeed.

Yet, the question remains: will Karen end up the star of the other musical-within-the-series and not BOMBSHELL after all? Tune in tomorrow to see!

McPhee clearly offers forth her characteristic charm with the 2011 single "Some Boys" from the popular - and occasionally emo - rock band, as can be heard and seen in these clips.

SMASH airs Tuesdays at 10 PM on NBC.
