Julie Andrews to Narrate Bay Street Simeon's Gift Reading

By: Jun. 29, 2007

Bay Street Theatre will present a special Benefit Concert Reading of Simeon's Gift, narrated by Julie Andrews, on Monday, July 30th at 7 pm, at The Whalers Church in Sag Harbor.

The first event in Bay Street Theatre's Family Theatre Initiative, Simeon's Gift is an original new musical for family audiences adapted from the best-selling book by Julie Andrews Edwards and Emma Walton Hamilton. Immediately following the concert there will be a talkback with the authors.

The Benefit Concert will be narrated by beloved film and stage actress Julie Andrews, with music by Ian Fraser (Academy Award for the score of the film Scrooge) and lyrics by acclaimed songwriter John Bucchino. Simeon's Gift is directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge (Bay Street: The Who's Tommy, Hair, Once on This Island) and will receive a full production at Bay Street this Thanksgiving weekend followed by a subsequent national tour.

Simeon's Gift (Harper Collins 2003) is a picture book by Julie Andrews Edwards and Emma Walton Hamilton, illustrated by award-winning artist Gennady Spirin. It premiered on the New York Times Bestseller List in 2003 and was voted "CHILD Magazine Best Book of the Year". Some of Gennady Spirin's original artwork will be available for sale during the evening with a portion of the proceeds donated to Bay Street.

"Funds raised from the Simeon's Gift Benefit will support Bay Street's new Family Theatre Initiative, dedicated to producing high quality, live family entertainment that is as creative as it is entertaining, and as authentic as it is relevant. Simeon's Gift is the first production in this exciting new venture," state press materials.

Tickets for this special concert reading are $100 for adults and $25 for children (up to age 12), and is recommended for children 8 and above. To reserve your tickets for the Simeon's Gift Benefit please call 631-725-0818 ext. 204 or email: Irene@baystreet.org.
