Bay Street Theatre will present a special Benefit Concert Reading of Simeon's Gift, narrated by Julie Andrews, on Monday, July 30th at 7 pm, at The Whalers Church in Sag Harbor.
The first event in Bay Street Theatre's Family Theatre Initiative, Simeon's Gift is an original new musical for family audiences adapted from the best-selling book by Julie Andrews Edwards and Emma Walton Hamilton. Immediately following the concert there will be a talkback with the authors.The Benefit Concert will be narrated by beloved film and stage actress Julie Andrews, with music by Ian Fraser (Academy Award for the score of the film Scrooge) and lyrics by acclaimed songwriter John Bucchino. Simeon's Gift is directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge (Bay Street: The Who's Tommy, Hair, Once on This Island) and will receive a full production at Bay Street this Thanksgiving weekend followed by a subsequent national tour. Simeon's Gift (Harper Collins 2003) is a picture book by Julie Andrews Edwards and Emma Walton Hamilton, illustrated by award-winning artist Gennady Spirin. It premiered on the New York Times Bestseller List in 2003 and was voted "CHILD Magazine Best Book of the Year".
