This year, the MITF is starting "Next Generation," a program to nurture young playwrights and other theatre artists involved in playwriting classes and programs in colleges and acting schools.

John Chatterton and his staff will encourage talented and determined students to produce their work in one or more of our festivals, where they can receive pointers from our professional staff and take advantage of exciting networking opportunities in the festival environment.

In addition to recruiting, nurturing, and showcasing student work, MITF's Next Generation will defer, reduce, or waive various Festival fees. Student works will also receive all the usual perks available to Festival participants, including free or discounted rehearsal time and free tickets to other shows.

The Next Generation shows will be part of the regular MITF lineup and will be promoted to the public equally alongside others.

The program is under the supervision of artistic director Christen Omantra Callahan, a New York City public-high-school educator and longtime associate of MITF, and committee chair Jay Michaels, managing director of the M Center for the Arts in Brooklyn.

Interested parties should contact the MITF at MidtownFestival@gmail.com.
