Joaquin Cortes to Bring 'Mi Soledad' Flamenco Show to Bway

This December, world renowned flamenco dancer Joaquín Cortés will return to New York City with his acclaimed solo show, Mi Soledad, for a strictly limited engagement at Broadway's Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway at 47th St.), December 11-22, 2006.  Opening Night is Tuesday, December 12.

The musical Legally Blonde will follow at the Palace Theatre in April.

"Already an international phenomenon, Joaquín Cortés: Mi Soledad has triumphantly played many of the world's capital cities since its Mexico City debut last year, including engagements in London (17 sold-out performances at the Royal Albert Hall), Venice, Milan, Paris, Tokyo, Lisbon, Lima, Madrid, Kiev, Moscow, Barcelona, Caracas and Buenos Aires," as press materials state.  Mi Soledad marks Cortés' Broadway stage debut.

Mi Soledad (My Solitude) is a "unique 90-minute fusion of flamenco dance, music and song, in which Cortés takes audiences on an intimate and provocative journey through one man's private emotions. Through the music and his unmistakable trademark zapateado, Cortés goes straight to the soul of his art, using a rich palette full of the colors of flamenco to express solitude, intimacy and the manifestation of man as an individual.

Combining the musical rhythms of jazz, classical and flamenco genres with a live ten-piece orchestra and a seven-member vocal ensemble, Mi Soledad features music and lyrics by José Carbonell, Antonio Carbonell and Cortés."

An internationally celebrated dance star, Joaquín Cortés has collaborated with artists in a variety of performance genres throughout his career, including Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys, Debbie Allen, and filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar. His work has been seen in the U.S. on the Academy Awards and Grammy Awards broadcasts, and he as performed worldwide at venues including the Kremlin, The White House, and the La Fenice Opera House in Venice, as well as New York's Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center Theatre and City Center.

Joaquín Cortés: Mi Soledad features costume design by Jean Paul Gaultier, lighting design by Francois de la Ossa and Ricardo Requejo. Antonio Carbonell also serves as musical director. 

Joaquín Cortés: Mi Soledad is produced on Broadway by Gypsy Productions Inc., SuperFrank, Jeff Rowland and Foye Johnson. A U.S. national tour is being planned for 2007.

From Monday, December 11 through Friday, December 22, Joaquín Cortés: Mi Soledad plays Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 5 p.m. There are no Wednesday performances.

Tickets for Joaquín Cortés: Mi Soledad are $35-$100 and are available by calling www.Ticketmaster.com at 212-307-4100 beginning Sunday, November 19.  Tickets may also be purchased in-person at the Palace Theatre Box Office (1564 Broadway at 47th  St.) beginning Sunday, November 19.

$25 same-day student rush tickets are also available at the Palace Theatre Box Office beginning at 10 a.m. on the day of each performance. A valid student I.D. must be presented, and there is a limit of two student rush tickets per person.
