Last October, BWW spoke to SUPERGIRL's Jeremy Jordan and asked him if there was a chance that the superhero drama, featuring a host of musical talent including GLEE's Melissa Benoist and Broadway's Laura Benanti, might one day film a special musical episode. At the time, the NEWSIES star laughed off the question, joking "Oh jeez, I don't know, maybe down the line after we've established ourselves as a hit show, we can take those kinds of risks. But at this point there is nothing like that so far - I don't think you'll be seeing Laura's character and I doing a Christmas duet in some crazy strange alternate universe any time soon."

Well according to a report in TVLine, that risk-taking moment may have arrived! The site reports that the show, which recently made the transfer from CBS to The CW, and THE FLASH will team up for a two-part musical episode airing during the second half of the 2016-17 TV season. The news was announced this morning at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

"Yes, there will be a musical crossover," confirmed executive producer Greg Berlanti. "There's going to be a musical pair of episodes in the back half of the year between SUPERGIRL and The Flash."

Along with GLEE alum Grant Gustin who also stars on the series, THE FLASH boasts a musically talented cast as well, including RENT star Jesse L. Martin and Carlos Valdes, who appeared in Broadway's ONCE, and served as a swing and Franki Valli understudy on the JERSEY BOYS tour. Also in the cast are stage veterans Victor Garber and John Barrowman. The planned musical sequences will most likely be taking place inside characters' heads.

Asked if there would be original music written for the special episodes, Berlanti shared that the characters will sing mostly pre-existing songs, but added, "We have been talking about trying to write at least one original song per episode."
