Jeffrey Kuhn will play courageous East German tranvestite Charlotte von Mahlsdorf in a production of Doug Wright's I Am My Own Wife that will play Max and Lillian Katzman Theater in Hudson, NY from July 5th through July 23rd; it opens on July 7th.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning solo play will be presented by Stageworks/Hudson.  In addition, Wright will take part in an audience Q&A session after the opening night performance.  Jeffrey Mousseau directs.

"Based on a true story, and inspired by interviews conducted by the playwright over several years, I Am My Own Wife tells the fascinating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a real-life German transvestite who managed to survive the Nazi onslaught as well as the following, repressive Communist regime.  This one-man play stars Mays in over 40 roles, including the controversial figure herself and the American writer who becomes intrigued by her," state notes on the show.  I Am My Own Wife premiered on Broadway on December 3, 2003 at the Lyceum Theatre, where it ran for 361 performances.  Directed by Moises Kaufman, it won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Play, as wel las a Tony for star Jefferson Mays.

Kuhn last played Zangara in the Roundabout Theatre Company revival of Assassins.  Other Broadway credits include Wicked (in which he played Boq) and Ragtime.

The design team for the new production will comprise
John Pollard (sets), Janet Sussman (costumes), Andi Lyons (lighting), and Jeffrey Lependorf (sound).
