Jazz Exhibit to Open at Children's Museum of Manhattan on 5/23

The Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem (NJMH) will celebrate the rich history and lasting legacy of jazz in America in their new interactive exhibit and program JAZZED! The Changing Beat of 125th Street , which opens at CMOM (212 West 83rd Street) on May 23 and runs through December 31.

Enter the intimate "jazz club" and listen to the warm sounds of Ella Fitzgerald; make your way to the "theater" and try out Bill "Bojangles" Robinson's famous stair dance; and meet Duke Ellington and his famous jazz orchestra in the "ballroom."

During opening weekend festivities, families can listen to a live performance by the National Jazz Museum in Harlem's All Star Band, construct Big Band-era style instruments, sing at a 1930's pretend-play microphone and make their own tap shoes, among other fun things.

Daily art workshops and piano presentations, as well as weekly live performances by leading jazz artists and dance companies, will allow families to experience how this multi-faceted artistic genre continues to influence culture today.
