Jamie Bernstein Brings Her 'NYC SHOUT-OUT' to St. Paul's 3/28

The New York Times is reporting that the daughter of the late Leonard Bernstein is taking after her father and creating music that sings of the city. Saturday,, March 28th, Jamie Bernstein will lead 250 young people in her new composition, "NYC Shout-Out," which she calls "an urban street chant."

The free concert at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Manhattan is part of a one-day festival featuring the Young People's Chorus of New York City. Many of its members, ages 12 to 18, have had no formal musical training.

Jamie Bernstein is a singer, composer and radio personality who, along with her two siblings, has continued to keep alive the legacy of their father, who died in 1990.

The new production of West Side Story officially opened on Broadway at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway) on Thursday, March 19, 2009. Directed by its two-time Tony Award winning librettist Arthur Laurents,The original Jerome Robbins choreography will be restaged by Tony Award nominee Joey McKneely (The Boy from Oz, The Life).

West Side Story is composed by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
