'In The Heights' Ladies To Welcome Fleet Week Sailors 5/22
Lovelies from the 13-Tony Award-nominated Broadway smash In The Heights will give Fleet Week sailors and marines a "fleet-footed" Big Apple greeting, recreating classic New York poses (think kick line, sailors hoisting cast members on their shoulders and maybe even sneaking a kiss) as their images are projected live on the giant News Astrovision by Panasonic Video Screen, on Thursday, May 22th; 11:00AM to 11:30AM; Military Island, Broadway and 43rd Street, Times Square, Manhattan.
This video salute will kick-off an official Fleet Week event until 5PM where 300 sailors and marines will be photographed in groups, with their images simultaneously projected on the giant video screen on the building where the New Year's Eve Ball drops.
Also entertaining the visiting sailors and marines will be the USO Troupe of Metropolitan New York; American Cheerleaders, who have entertained the troops in Iraq and acoustic bands Lansdowne and Chasing Corona.
During the event, commemorative photos will be given to the visiting sailors and marines on the spot in specially mounted keepsake folders. The photos will also be available via the internet (on the Panasonic website www.panasonic.com) and be sent to their respective hometown newspapers.
The event is a collaborative effort of the Fleet Week, the USO of Metropolitan New York, the United States Navy and Panasonic.
