Today's New York Times In Performance video features a scene from playwright Terrence McNally's new Broadway play Mothers and Sons, which today received two Tony Award nominations! Tyne Daly stars as Katharine Gerard, a widow who travels to New York to visit Cal, the former partner of her son Andre, who passed away of AIDS several years earlier, and Cal's new husband, Will. In the video, Katharine explains why she's "angry about almost everything."

Four-time Tony® Award winning playwright Terrence McNally's newest play, Mothers and Sons opened at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) on March 24, 2014. Over the course of five decades, Mr. McNally has chronicled the human experience with a wide range of works including Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, The Full Monty, Ragtime, Master Class, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Kiss of the Spider Woman,The Rink, The Ritz, and Bad Habits.

Mothers and Sons, a play about a mother who pays a surprise visit to the New York apartment of her late son's ex-partner, who is now married to another man and has a young son. Challenged to face how society has changed around her - without her - she is finally able to see the rich life her son might have led.
