Immersive JOE'S NYC BAR Invites New Yorkers to Join the Conversation on the Upper East Side

By:

In the days leading up to the inauguration of President-Elect Donald Trump, Joe's NYC Bar will open its doors in NYC for the first time in its 15-year existence.

At Joe's NYC Bar, the audience is invited to join the interactive, immersive, improvised, 90-minute show that seeks to build a global conversation about the world we live in. This limited 9-show run will take place at iconic Upper East Side hangout Ryan's Daughter from tonight, January 6, through January 15, 2017.

Originally conceived and created in Orlando in 2001 by New York transplant Christian Kelty, Joe's NYC Bar offers a safe space for the public to interact with a diverse cast of colorful and opinionated barflies about issues close to their hearts. But it's not just about the actors. At Joe's, audience members will interact with diverse characters from a wired ad executive to a neurotic pharma rep to an introverted art therapist. Embedded into the experience are meticulously researched characters, each with their individual narratives explored at every performance, plus a different world-class live musical act every night.

"It's a tricky balance to ensure that no one in the audience feels alienated," states Kelty. "We try and make sure that no matter what your point of view, there is a character who agrees with you. We've had some amazing moments between audience members who come from different points of view, being able to be heard and to listen. That's kind of everything. We should definitely all be listening more."

Featuring NYC performing artists Frank Cardillo, Walter Michael DeForest, Kelly Kinsella, Peter Michael Marino, Julia Register, David Rosenberg and Adam Sullivan.

It also attracted a multitude of world-class musical guests including Michelle Shocked and Ali McGregor who provide tunes while adding to the debate.
