INDUSTRY INSIGHT: Weekly Grosses Analysis - 4/16

Welcome to this week's edition of BroadwayWorld's exclusive WEEKLY GROSSES ANALYSIS - read on for all the weekly grosses statistics for the movers and shakers from the latest grosses, for the week ending 4/15/2018.
This week, 35 shows played on Broadway, with 304,922 tickets sold and a total gross of $37,131,666. The average ticket price was $121.77.Of note, last week's Broadway (play) record breaker Harry Potter and The Cursed Child grossed $1,701,110 for the preview week ending April 15th at the Lyric Theatre. The production was sold out. This gross figure reflects seats given to reviewers and other members of the press, along with nominators for various awards for both Parts One and Two. It is likely that the reported gross sales will be continue to be impacted by additional complimentary tickets given to the media over the next few weeks.
In the first week following Mean Girls' opening night on Broadway, the new hit musical comedy grossed $1,382,096.20 over eight performances, three of which were heavily comped with post-opening night press seats. Once again, the show was completely sold out at every performance.
This was less than the number of shows as last week and down 5 vs. the same week last year. Compared to last week, attendance was down -7.02%. Versus last year, attendance was down -4.66%. On the sales front, overall grosses were down -12.83% vs. last week and up 5.53% vs. this week last year. This week's average ticket price of $121.77 is down $-8.11 compared to last week and up $11.76 compared to last year.
