Beginning with their 1992 acquisition of London's Ambassadors and Duke of York's Theatres, Howard Panter and Rosemary Squire have nurtured the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) into one of the world's major theatre ownership, production management and marketing and ticketing organizations, with forty-six venues located in the UK, the US and Australia.

But, as reported by The Stage, the husband and wife business partners have stepped down as joint chief executives to be replaced by a corporate business leader. The move includes their purchasing of Trafalgar Studios from ATG with the intention to run it independently.

"We are going back to our roots," says Panter, "to create distinguished theatre productions."

"There is quality at ATG of course," he explains, "but it's very mainstream and as the corporate giant becomes so big you can't always get the quality you want, where you want it. We want to develop a particular audience, the same kind of audience that would go to the National Theatre."
