Howard Barker Comes To The Segal Center 5/10

By: May. 05, 2010

On Monday, May 10, from 1:00 p.m. Howard Barker will come to the Segal Center. The work of Howard Barker, one of the most controversial English-language dramatists, directors and theatre theoreticians of our time, will be celebrated in this day-long event.

Barker, along with his frequent collaborator actress Victoria Wicks and critic David Ian Rabey (author of a two-volume study of Barker's work), will make a rare visit to the United States specifically for this event, initiated and curated by George Hunka and co-presented by the Segal Center and the theatre minima company. More information on the playwright can be found in a special section on Barker in this month's Hyperion Art Journal online: http://www.nietzschecircle.com/hyperion.html

Schedule includes:

1:00 p.m. Screening of "Refuse to Dance" (BBC documentary, 1986)

2:15 p.m. Screening of excerpts from Barker's directorial work with The Wrestling School

3:30 p.m. Panel: "Howard Barker in America" with actress Jan Maxwell, playwright Ken Urban, director Jesse Berger (Red Bull Theater) + director Richard Romagnoli (Potomac Theatre Project/The Wrestling School)

6:30 p.m. Readings from Barker's plays, directed by Jesse Berger (Red Bull Theater)

7:30 p.m. "A Conversation with Howard Barker" between Barker and David Ian Rabey (University of Aberystwyth, Wales)
