The all-ages free Summer in the Square show celebrates release of a rootsy album featuring Laurie Berkner, Dan Zanes and Peter Yarrow: Back to the Land

Back by popular demand, Hot Peas 'n Butter, a nationally touring and award-winning band from Brooklyn, performs their signature songs incorporating elements of traditional Latin music, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, jazz, folk, and rock with an interactive and invigorating approach. The full-band interactive show on July 12 will be on the Main Stage on Union Square Park's South Plaza (near 14th Street). The concert celebrates the release of a new Hot Peas 'n Butter album called Back to the Land, which is available on July 6.

HPNB have always explored roots music from a variety of cultural traditions in their seven albums for families. This summer, they'll release a collection of new songs that explore the rootsy music from North American and other traditions while celebrating our connections to each other and to the planet: Back to the Land.

The title track is a rousing bluegrass tune with special guests Laurie Berkner, Peter Yarrow, (Peter Paul & Mary) and Dan Zanes, recognizing the environmental challenges for our Earth, with hopeful lyrics encouraging listeners to find their way "back to the land."
