Hell in a Handbag Opens THE GOLDEN GIRLS: THE CHEESE PYRAMID World Premiere in Chicago

Hell in a Handbag Productions, now celebrating its 25th year, will continue its 2025/26 season with the world premiere of THE GOLDEN GIRLS: THE CHEESE PYRAMID, a new installment in the company’s “Lost Episodes” parody series. Written by Artistic Director David Cerda and directed by Brigitte Ditmars, the production will run from May 8 through June 21 at The Clutch, Handbag’s performance space located at 4335 N. Western Ave. in Chicago. The press opening is scheduled for May 16 at 7:30 p.m.

The comedy follows Rose as she attempts to earn extra income by launching what is described as the first multi-level marketing company in St. Olaf, introducing local households to the cheeses of her hometown. As her stockpile of cheese grows out of control, Blanche, Dorothy, and Sophia step in to help organize a cheese party with the audience participating as guests.

The cast includes Kelly Bolton, David Cerda, Grant Drager, Ed Jones, Scott Sawa, Danne W. Taylor, and Gretchen Greear. Understudies include Nick Dorado, Brenda Holiday, and Honey West.

The production team includes Marcus Klein (Scenic Design), Liz Cooper (Lighting Design), Matthew Chase (Sound Design), Maggie O'Brien (Props Design), Syd Genco (Make-Up Design), Keith Ryan (Wig Design), Mealah Heidenreich (Production Management), Jason Pikscher (Technical Direction), Peter Neville (Videography), and Ashton M. (Stage Management).

Preview performances are scheduled for May 8, 9, 10, and 15, with regular performances running Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Additional Industry Night performances will also be presented during the run. Tickets are now on sale.
