Granite Theatre Announces 2018 Season

The Renaissance City Theatre, Inc. (RCTI) announces the exciting and new 18th Season of the Granite Theatre. Southern Rhode Island's only year-round theatre is within walking distance of some of the region's finest dining as well as a beautiful stretch of beaches and popular resorts. The Theatre is in a beautifully refurbished Greek Revival building located in the heart of historic downtown Westerly.

The 2018 season opens with "Dial M for Murder" by Frederick Knott. Alfred Hitchcock made a classic thriller about this story of Tony Wendice who married his wife, Margot, for her money and now plans to murder her for the same reason. He arranges the perfect murder and a brilliant alibi for himself. A police inspector from Scotland Yard begins a fevered search for the truth, in a scene of almost unbearable suspense. - March 23 - April 8

"Proof" by David Auburn. Catherine has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, Robert. When he dies a former student of her father's hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that Robert left behind. How much of her father's madness or genius will Catherine inherit? Gwyneth Paltrow starred in this Pultizer Prize-winning play in 2001. - April 27 - May 12

"The Ladies Foursome" by Norm Foster. This is the hilarious female version of our 2016 smash hit. Four women gather for a round of golf in honor of a recently departed friend. Over the course of eighteen holes, secrets and confessions unravel as the women discuss sex, children and everything in between. - June 1 - June 17

"A Comedy of Tenors" by Ken Ludwig ushers in the summer season. One hotel suite, four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends, and a soccer stadium filled with screaming fans. What could possibly go wrong? It's 1930s Paris. Producer Henry Saunders must keep Italian superstar Tito Merelli and his hot-blooded wife Maria from causing runaway chaos. An uproarious ride, full of mistaken identities, bedroom hijinks, and madcap delight. - June 29 - July 22

"The Prisoner of 2nd Avenue" by Neil Simon. Mel Edison is a well-paid executive suddenly gets the ax. His wife takes a job to tide them over, then she too is sacked. Compounded by the air-pollution killing his plants, and with the walls of the apartment allowing him a constant earful of his neighbors' private lives when his psychiatrist dies, Mel does the only thing left for him to do-he has a nervous breakdown. As hilarious as it is topical. Possibly Neil Simon's funniest show! - August 3 -26

"A Murder Is Announced" by Agatha Christie & Leslie Darbon. An announcement in the local paper states the time and place when a murder is to occur. The victim is an unknown visitor in this classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death, a Police Inspector and Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution in a dramatic confrontation just before the final curtain. - September 7 - 23.

"Bell, Book and Candle" by John Van Druten. Gillian Holroyd is one of the few modern witches capable of feats of supernaturalism. She casts a spell over Shepherd Henderson. He falls head over heels in love with her at once and wants to marry her. But witches, unfortunately, cannot fall in love, and this minute imperfection leads into a number of difficulties. "...completely enchanting-a wonderfully suave and impish fantasy." -NY Times. - October 12 - 28.

"Annie" Book by Thomas Meehan Music by Charles Strouse Lyrics by Martin Charnin. "Annie" has become a worldwide phenomenon and was the winner of seven Tony Awards. Little orphan Annie, despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, she finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. - November 23 - December 23.

The theatre boasts oversized theatre seating, air conditioning and a charming, spacious lounge area where patrons may enjoy a selection of wines, beers and soft drinks from the theatre's cash bar and mingle with the performers after the show. Opening nights of each new production feature a special post-show party and mixer of patrons and performers.

Shows run Thursday through Saturday with 8 PM performances and Sunday matinees at 2 PM. Some shows will vary with additional performances. Tickets for comedies are $20, seniors 62+ $17, children 12 and under $12. Musicals are $25, seniors 62+ $22 and children 12 and under $15.
