Hanging Art Organization in association with Gallery at New World Stages, located at 343 West 49th Street, today announced the upcoming opening of Martin Cohen Selected Works. This exhibition presents 16 of Cohen's "Doors of Expression" (a series of artworks made on large wood doors), as well as collage art and paintings, and a special group of small sketchbook abstracts. The show will be on view from September 17 through November 14, 2010, with an Opening Reception on September 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. Martin Cohen Selected Works is designed by curator Bernard Stote.

"Cohen's works remind me of deconstructed bits of architecture," said Stote, a New York City-based artist and designer who for the past six years has designed exhibits and specialty retail stores for Fountain Gallery in Midtown Manhattan. "This exhibit showcases a broad range of Cohen's abstract works, including 40 sketchbook drawings that have never been shown before, continued Stote. "These drawings demonstrate the artist's dedication to ongoing investigation of his painting and collage geometrics," concluded Stote.

Cohen holds a B.F.A. degree from SUNY Purchase and while there was inspired by figurative and abstract expressionism which evolved into his own style. After studying at the Studio School of New York, he was awarded an M.F.A. degree from Carnegie Mellon, where he furthered his artistic development through study with renowned artist Sam Gilliam. Cohen's works have been shown in solo and group shows and have been acquired by numerous private collectors and by corporate patrons such as The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., Eli Lilly and Company, and Citi.

About Hanging Art Organization
After reading the book The Artist's Way, in 2004 Bernard Stote conceived the idea that would develop into Hanging Art Organization: He mounted a one-man show of his own artwork in his 300 square foot studio apartment. More than 85 people passed through to view this "exhibition", and thus began Stote's journey of showing artists' work in their apartments and at coffee houses and businesses in Midtown Manhattan. Since 1989, Stote has been involved in the arts communities of Philadelphia, Miami, and New York, serving as a conservator of art, rare books and manuscripts; a PEW Foundation grant assistant; a museum exhibit designer; and a guest curator, art installer, and volunteer for non-profit organizations in the New York metropolitan area.
