Frenchie Davis to Star in Hartford Stage's Mahalia

Variety reports that "American Idol" and Rent star Frenchie Davis will headline Hartford Stages's production of Mahalia, Tom Stolz' musical about legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson.  The production will run at the Connecticut theatre from August 2nd through August 19th.

Mahalia will co-star Miche Braden and J. Michael.  Hartford Stage Associate Artistic Director Jeremy B. Cohen is set to direct the biographical musical.

Davis, who recently left the Broadway cast of Rent as the "Seasons of Love" soloist, has performed in the hit Jonathan Larson musical off and on for the last four years.  Her other theatrical credits include a national tour of Dreamgirls, Monica! TheMusical, Jesus Christ Superstar in Germany and a regional production of Little Shop of Horrors.
