Fountain Gallery Presents OPEN MIND 6/25-8/11
Fountain Gallery, the premier venue in New York City representing artists with mental illness, located at 702 Ninth Avenue at 48th Street, has announced the opening of Open Mind. This group exhibition presents work by member-artists of organizations in Sweden that are affiliates of the Gallery's parent organization, Fountain House, the world's leading provider of recovery services for men, women, and young adults living with major mental illness. The exhibition will be on view from June 25 through August 11, 2010, with an Opening Reception on June 25, from 6 to 8 p.m.
"We are pleased to bring Open Mind to Fountain Gallery after its successful tour of Sweden," said Jason Bowman, Director of Fountain Gallery. "The organizations instrumental in mounting this show share our goal of challenging the stigma surrounding mental illness by showcasing the talents of artists living and working with it."Beginning in April of 2008, Open Mind traveled to galleries and other public spaces in seven cities in Sweden, concluding in Stockholm in December 2009. Open Mind showcases 34 works in various mediums.
This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York
City Department of Cultural Affairs, and by generous support from The Jarvis and
Constance Doctorow Family Foundation and The Renate, Hans and Maria
Hofmann Trust.
