FLASHFORWARD FRIDAY: This Is The Age of Jackson

Rock Star

Almost all of what I have to say about BLOODY, BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON can be found in this week's SOUND OFF review of the absolutely excellent cast album, but given that Broadway has a brand new contemporary score with a fascinating concept in a show populated by some of the brightest new stars on Broadway in eons, just one plug would not suffice. This is what EVERY Broadway show should be trying to be: New, difference, exciting, original and innovative. Those five features this show has in spades - and this score reveals with every play of the cast recording - and while nothing matches the live experience, these clips may make the tangibility of the experience more possible. A bloody good time.

Last night's performance on LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON was some of the most unexpectedly fabulous rock star cocksmanship that I have ever seen - and this coming from a bunch of Broadway babies! No one will ever second guess the astounding abilities of lead Benjamin Walker after this. He OWNS this role and he OWNS this performance in this clip. From backstage at the writing desk to writhing with "sexy pants" on to wrecking the mic stand to wreaking havoc, this is a wealth of rock star-itude on display. Thrash it and trash it.
