Following five sold out performances at Second Stage Theatre last year, Annabelle Gurwitch and an all-new collection of "recently let go" professionals will return to Second Stage Theatre for another one-night-only performance of FIRED!  Part of Second Stage Theatre's Monday Night Live Series (which recently presented the sold-out Gavin Creel: Prom King), FIRED! will take place on Monday, April 18th at 8:00pm at Second Stage Theatre, 307 West 43rd Street (just west of Eighth Ave.).  Tickets are $35.  To purchase, call the Second Stage Box Office at (212) 246-4422.

While rehearsing Woody Allen's play Writer's Block, Annabelle Gurwitch was told by Woody, "what you're doing is terrible, don't ever do that again, not even in another play."  She was quickly fired.  While she came to the conclusion that she probably was wrong for the role, she was still haunted by being fired by her comedy idol.  After writing and performing a piece about the experience, Annabelle discovered there were others who wanted to come forth to tell their tales.  Thus, FIRED! was born.

Second Stage's original one-night-only presentation of FIRED! in January, 2004 was an immediate sell out, forcing Second Stage and creator Annabelle Gurwitch to immediately schedule four additional evenings last March.  All of the added performances sold out.  A subsequent run in Los Angeles as part of L.A. Theatreworks was a resounding success with both audiences and critics.  Ms. Gurwitch is currently collecting stories for a FIRED! book and Richard Foos, co-founder of Rhino Records and CEO of The Shout Factory, is creating a documentary of the phenomenon.

This year, Second Stage Theatre will be choosing one lucky winner to tell a personal tale of being fired live onstage on the evening of the 18th.  Submissions (no longer than 100 words) will be reviewed by Ms. Gurwitch and the Second Stage staff and the winner will be invited onstage to read the story to the audience.  For more details, visit www.secondstagetheatre.com/fired or www.firedbyannabellegurwitch.com.
