FABnyc's FAB! Festival Set for Today, 9/22

Today, September 22, 2012 from 1-5PM, FABnyc will present the FAB! Festival, an annual celebration of Lower East Side arts & culture. FREE live entertainment on multiple outdoor stages, as well as inside the intimate theaters of East 4th Street, will showcase what was recently dubbed "the new Broadway of New York City" (* Featuring performances of dance, theater, music, art installations, local artisans & gourmet food vendors, workshops, and hands-on-activities for all ages, the FAB! Festival presents new and exciting experiences for residents and visitors citywide in the heart of the East 4th Street Cultural District.

Performances Galore! Onstage and On the Street
Locating the Sacred: FABnyc teams up with the Asian American Arts Alliance as a site for their citywide Locating the Sacred Festival, running September 12-23, to present two hours (1-3PM) of work by Asian American Artists, including Japanese Taiko drumming, hula dancing, Hawaiian music, modern dance, hip hop, spoken word, and more!

Slash Coleman: From his PBS Special, Neon Man and Me, award-winning storyteller Slash Coleman tells a humorous tale through story and music of his boyhood crush on a third grade teacher.

Silent Warrior Productions The New Family Theater: Poetry by the Lower East Side's award winning Miguel Pinero meets the work of Antone Pagan and hot Latin music of Joe Cuban in this vibrant performance, A Lower East Side PINERO.

On the Concrete: Cutting-edge collaborative, The Movement Party and invited guests, perform interactive site-specific dance performances, and mobile orchestra cdza will hit the street mid-afternoon with sets of invigorating live music.

WOW! Wow Cabaret: Through song, dance, theater, poetry, and burlesque, Wow Café Theatre offers an eclectic sampler of what's happening at the country's oldest women's theater collective.

Vaudeville Hour: Persona extraordinaire Brigham Mosley brings his alter ego, Mae Mosley, to the Kraine for Vaudville Hour, followed by Harrison Beck's piano serenade, "Familiar Song, Forgotten Melodies."

Off-Off Broadway At Its Best: The New York Innovative Theater Foundation, creators of the Innovative Theater Awards, presents a specially curated glimpse of Off-Off Broadway.

Dance It Out On Dance Block: Anyone can brush up on their dance moves with numerous, FREE dance and movement workshops offered during the Festival. Lotus Music & Dance will be offering Tahitian and Hula dance classes, and Rod Rodgers Dance School will be offering a crash courses in modern dance technique for adults and children.

Other workshops include: A Marketing Workshop by Slash Coleman is great for anyone who wants to jump into the business end of being an artist.

All workshops are available via advanced registration and on a first come first served basis on the day of the festival. Tickets will become available on September 1.

Activities All Afternoon
Lower East Side Museums: Three unique cultural institutions will be coming out to join the fun on East 4th. Festivalgoers can participate in a Bowery Artist Tribute Scavenger Hunt with The New Museum, or check out activities and information from The Ukrainian Museum and The Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space.

Education En Masse: GrowNYC will be demonstrating ways to stay sustainable and healthy, with seasonal cooking demonstrations and a game that teaches New Yorkers the best ways to recycle. Also, The Educational Alliance will be hosting arts activities for children.

Screen-Printing with Works in Progress: Perennial favorite and social entrepreneurship group, Works in Progress, will be screen-printing the fabulous FABnyc "4" on any cloth item! Its BYOT - bring your own T-shirt.

Other Activities Include: Massages by East Village Chiropractic, mini-dance demonstrations from Lotus Music & Dance, a scavenger hunt with New York Theatre Workshop, Theater in a Box by Teatro IATI, and ArtUp public art installations.

Artisan Goods & Gourmet Food from the LES and Beyond
The Cart: The Cart, an artist run food cart, who had their world premier at last year's Festival, features custom-made banana pops in a variety of flavors-from the classic Plain But Covered in Chocolate, to Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl, and more!

Mexicue Food Truck: LES favorite, the Mexicue Food Truck, will be on the block with savory options and their signature mix of smoky and spicy flavors. To salivate over the menu visit

Granola Lab: Festivalgoers can learn about better breakfast with Granola Lab, and their exciting, flavorful, all-natural granolas.

Sustainability Takes the Spotlight: At this year's Festival, FABnyc aims to reduce waste and ensure 100% of the waste resulting from the Festival is appropriately reused, recycled or disposed of. To reach this goal, FABnyc is partnering with GrowNYC to provide recycling containers with friendly helpers from EcoBizNYC to answer questions about proper recycling. Non-bottled sources of water will be FREE to all attendees, and festivalgoers can also check in with unwasteNY to learn about how they can waste less energy and lower their energy bills.
