A memorial for actor Edwin C. Owens has been scheduled for October 16th at the 78th Street Theatre Lab (236 W. 78th St., third floor) at 3:30 PM.

The two-hour memorial will celebrate Owens' more than 50 years as an actor, as well as other personal accomplishments.  Those who knew Owens are invited to share their stories at the memorial (and those who can't attend may e-mail reminiscences to drillingcompany@aol.com).

Owens died of heart failure on September 16th while performing in the national tour of On Golden Pond; he was Tom Bosley's understudy in the role of Norman Thayer.

Owens most recently performed on Broadway as Dr. Baugh in the 2003 revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof; he also served as the understudy in the role of Big Daddy.  Other Broadway credits included Fortune's Fool and Death of a Salesman, while Off-Broadway credits included The Right Kind of People and Philadelphia, Here I Come!  He was also a veteran of regional theatre, having performed in plays at the Guthrie Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and more.  Hudson River Blues, "Law & Order," "Falcon Crest" and "Hill Street Blues" were among his film and TV credits.
