Doug Hughes has been appointed as Resident Director of the Roundabout Theatre Company, effective September 2007, to serve as a part time year-round artistic advisor for Roundabout productions.  This new position was created to provide an additional voice for Todd Haimes and his colleagues as they make artistic decisions for one of this country's leading not-for-profit theatre companies.

"Roundabout Theatre Company annually produces a year round eight-play season, stages 20-30 readings and workshops, commissions 2-4 new works and manages one of the most ambitious arts education programs," describe press notes.

Doug Hughes has served as an associate artist at Roundabout Theatre Company for two years.  He has directed the following productions for Roundabout: Howard Katz, The Paris Letter, McReele, A Touch of the Poet and A Naked Girl on the Appian Way.  He is the only director who has directed at all three of Roundabout's theatres.  As Artistic Director of New Haven's Long Wharf Theatre, he began his first season with the success of Wit. The production transferred to New York, where it had a long off-Broadway run and national tour that subsequently won a Pulitzer Prize.  For his work on Doubt, Hughes won the 2005 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play in addition to the Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics, Drama Desk and Callaway Awards. For his work on Frozen, Hughes received Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Lortel nominations.  In May 2005, Hughes received an Obie Award for Sustained Excellence.  Hughes is currently directing Theresa Rebeck's Mauritius at Manhattan Theatre Club.

Roundabout Theatre Company is one of the country's leading not-for-profit theatres.  The company contributes invaluably to New York's cultural life by staging the highest quality revivals of classic plays and musicals as well as new plays by established writers. Roundabout consistently partners great artists with great works to bring a fresh and exciting interpretation that makes each production relevant and important to today's audiences.

Roundabout Theatre Company's upcoming season also includes Terrence McNally's The Ritz; George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion; J.T. Rogers' The Overwhelming; Stephen Karam's Speech & Debate; Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps; Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine's Sunday in the Park with George; and Christopher Durang's The Marriage of Bette and Boo.
