Department of Art MFA Student Exhibition Opens 1/26

By:

The Department of Art presents You Are Here: First Year MFA Exhibition Monday, Jan. 26 to Friday, Feb. 20 in Hopkins Hall Gallery, 128 N. Oval Mall. A reception is planned Thursday, Jan. 29, 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the gallery.

The show includes students from all seven areas in the department including ceramics, glass, printmaking, sculpture, art & technology, photography and painting & drawing.

"The graduate program attracts students from across the country and around the world," said Rebecca Harvey, chair. "They land in Columbus in August, set up their studios and get right to work. Their artwork ranges from lyrical to obscure to absurd, and everything in between.

"Of all our graduate exhibitions, this first-year show is perhaps my favorite," she added. "There is a rawness and urgency to the work, rough edges and awkward bits that will be smoothed and refined over time. The exhibition is in a very real way their introduction, both to the university and the larger Columbus art community."

The exhibition includes the work of first-year students who will graduate from the MFA program in 2017. Artists are Allison Craver, Tess Elliot, Nick Fagan, Sarah Goetz, Jessie Horning, Emma Kindall, Yuanyuan Lu, Sean Merchant, Melissa Precise, Hillary Nicole Reed, Sa'dia Rehman, Cameron Sharp, Sam van Strien, Britny Wainwright and Andrew Wood.
