Join us at the Dayton Playhouse on Monday and Tuesday, March 8th and 9th for auditions for our next Main Stage musical GYPSY, running running May 7th-23rd. Auditions will be held in the Dayton Playhouse lobby at 7pm on both nights. Call-backs will be on Wednesday, March 10th. Please come prepared with a 60 second monologue and a Broadway style song that shows vocal range and personality. An accompanist will be provided. The Dayton Playhouse is located at 1301 E Siebenthaler Ave in Dayton, OH. Please call 937-424-8477 with questions.

Descriptions of the roles follow:
• Rose - Alto with belt (35-55), A powerhouse, seemingly invulnerable stage mother
• Louise - Mezzo (18-25), Rose's "ugly duckling" who unwillingly finds the spotlight
• Herbie - Baritone (40-55), A charming showbiz insider seeking normalcy
• Dainty June - Mezzo (16-20), Frighteningly sweet singer, the product of her mother
• Tulsa - High Baritone (18-25), Dancer with dreams of stardom. Tap skills a must
• Miss Mazeppa - Alto (30-60), Burlesque belter who has a knack for the trumpet
• Electra - Mezzo (50-100), Tired burlesque dancer who gets creative with lightbulbs
• Tessie-Tura - Mezzo (20-50), A former ballerina who's learned a less-refined dance
• Baby June - Belter (6-10), A barrel of vaudeville dynamite, June's young counterpart
• Baby Louise - Spoken (8-13), Highly intelligent but awkward, the younger Louise

In addition, the cast requires a dancing ensemble of 4 young men, 4 young women, and 4 young boys. Other actors will be assigned multiple roles to complete the Gypsy company.

GYPSY is the ultimate story about an aggressive stage mother. Join Rose, June and Louise in their trip across the United States during the 1920's, when vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born. Jule Styne's music and Stephen Sondheim's lyrics include Let Me Entertain You, Some People, You'll Never Get Away from Me, If Momma Was Married, All I Need Is the Girl, Everything's Coming Up Roses, You Gotta Get A Gimmick and Together Wherever We Go. This is a gripping story of one of the most frightening aspects of show business.

Gypsy will be directed by BrIan Sharp. Gypsy has a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Gypsy was suggested by memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee.
The original production was helmed by David Merrick & Leland Hayward. Entire production originally directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins.

Since its founding, Dayton Playhouse has been a training ground for young actors and a creative outlet for older performers who have chosen an alternative career choice to the theatre. Dayton Playhouse is proud to have actor Rob Lowe as one of its alumni. Over the years Dayton Playhouse has made its niche in the market by producing large scale musicals and is the home to the nationally renowned FutureFest...a festival of new works.
