Dance Schools Partner for Emergency Fund Benefit Performance

The Emergency Fund for Student Dancers (EFSD) announces two performances by advanced students of its member schools, appearing in two benefit concerts, March 10 at 3 PM and 6:30 PM. The concerts feature original work by renowned choreographers as well as dances by faculty members of the member schools. Dancers in these pieces are advanced students affiliated with the member schools. Among the featured works are:

*Diversion of Angels by Martha Graham, performed by Graham 2;

*There is a Time (excerpts) by Jose Limon performed by Professional Studies Program students of the Limon Institute;

*Our Better Angels, choreographed by Earl Mosley, danced by the Ailey/Fordham Student Dancers of The Ailey School;

*and two flamenco dances accompanied by live music and performed by the Ballet Hispanico's La Academia students.

The Emergency Fund for Students Dancers was established in 1990 in response to a tragic circumstance involving a Swiss student at the Martha Graham School. Since then its mission has been to provide financial support to full-time dance students and faculty of member schools who are in emergency or crisis situations. In order to make emergency loans and grants, EFSD has raised funds by holding joint concerts once or twice a year. In addition, EFSD presents educational workshops on topics relevant to students at professional studio schools, ranging from adjusting to living independently in NYC to health and injury prevention to making the transition from studio to stage.

For these benefit concerts, EFSD thanks all the people and organizations that have donated in-kind services and volunteered their time and skills. Thanks to the Martha Graham Center for Contemporary Dance for performance space, the EFSD Executive Committee members, the choreographers, dancers, technical personnel and students who have generously given of their time and talents to make these concerts happen.
