On Wednesday, July 22nd DRD Theatricals will present two workshop performances of THE LIVING NEWSPAPER, a new interactive theatrical venture that reinvents the concept of the Great Depression-era "Living Newspaper" performances. Written by Lindsay Gelfand, Josh Koenigsberg, and Don Nguyen, the workshops will feature direction by Laura Savia (assistant director: Twelfth Night starring Anne Hathaway at the Public Theatre; 10 Million Miles, and Romance at the Atlantic Theater Company). The workshops are scheduled for 4pm and 7pm at Manhattan Theatre Club Studios (311 West 43rd Street, 8th floor).

The cast will feature Satya Bhabha (Rafta Rafta at The New Group), John Dixon, Roger Lirtsman, Elizabeth Olsen (Impressionism on Broadway), Joanna Simmons (The Bath Opera at PS 122), Claire Wilmoth, and DeWanda Wise (Julianna on ABC's One Life to Live).

"Using current events as its source material, with the aim of injecting social immediacy into the theater, The Living Newspaper is a live performance series that exposes a story's multiple angles and social implications.

In a desensitized age where mass information reaches modern society via texts, blogs, and TV screens, The Living Newspaper strives to connect its audience emotionally and intellectually to the news. Each performance will be comprised of news inspired vignettes, ranging in tone from humorous and satirical to dramatic and serious, all connected through the goal of presenting an entertaining, original, and informative evening of live performance.

The Living Newspaper's ideological spectrum and audience base will extend far beyond the walls of the theater. Each new episode will be broadcast online and audiences will be encouraged to submit articles and opinions through The Living Newspaper's website. Through the synthesis of live theater and internet dialogue, The Living Newspaper stimulates a conversation among a global audience about the most pressing issues of our time."
