Ranging from the masterful watercolors of Walter Anderson, to the bright and energetic compositions of self-taught Thomas Burleson, to the gilded sculptural abstractions of Gail Gregg, the artists of Draftsmen Draft prove that paper is a powerful vehicle for big ideas.

Self-taught giants Bill Traylor, Minnie Evans and Carlo Zinelli all used the paper that was available to them, transforming it into compositions of astonishing beauty, and insight.

Bright color and vibrant energy imbue the paintings of Michael Madore and Henry Speller, while Edward Koren's wit and humor are conveyed in his bicycling creatures.

Mysterious tableaux of unknown places are created in the photographs of Hai Zhang, the graphite drawings of Gudjon Ketilsson and the watercolors of Thomas Lyon Mills.

Norman Lewis, the first major African American abstract expressionist, creates an oil painting on paper that focuses on his interest in conceptual expression.

Covering a wide array of technique and ideas, working with, and on paper is the foundation for all of these masterful draftsmen.
