DPTV Airs PURPLE ROSE 25 YEARS Documentary, Featuring Jeff Daniels, Tonight

By:

Since its founding 25 years ago by actor/playwright and Chelsea native, Jeff Daniels, the Purple Rose Theatre Company (PRTC) has been "the beacon of American Theatre," championing new American plays and playwrights and offering a unique apprentice program that is training the next generation of arts leaders.

Tonight, October 26, Detroit Public Television (DPTV) will air a special one-hour long documentary, PURPLE ROSE 25 YEARS, celebrating the rich history and contributions the PRTC has made since it was established in 1991.

Fans of Daniels and/or The Purple Rose who don't live in Michigan can also stream the documentary by visiting dptv.org/purplerose.

Watch a preview for the documentary below!

Produced by Daniels' own company, 2188 Studio, LLC, and sponsored by Meijer, Inc. and Comerica Bank, the documentary will include brief excerpts from Daniels' movies/TV, the theatre building, productions, samples of live footage scenes from PRTC artistic process, educational activities, events and post-performance talk-backs, as well as personal interview segments with Daniels, artistic director Guy Sanville, and other key creative and leadership professionals.

Sanville will be live at DPTV for the special on-air celebration starting at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 26 to highlight memorable moments in the company's history and plans for the future. The special will also feature a 25th Anniversary commemorative coffee table book, THE PURPLE ROSE OF CHELSEA by Cynthia Furlong Reynolds. The book is a collection of history, production and behind-the-scenes photos, artist and staff interviews.

The Purple Rose Theatre Company's 2015/2016 25th Anniversary Season will feature The Casting Session, a world premiere play by Jeff Daniels; Gaps in the Fossil Record, a world premiere by PRTC Associate Artist, silver screen and television sensation, Matt Letscher; and a Purple Rose take on two beloved classic comedies: The Odd Couple by Neil Simon and Morning's At Seven by Paul Osborn.
