DOUBT & DEFIANCE Playwright John Patrick Shanley To Be Inducted Into Playwrights' Sidewalk

DOUBT and DEFIANCE playwright John Patrick Shanley will be this year's inductee into the Lucille Lortel Theatre's Playwrights' Sidewalk.

Shanley will join such playwrights as Sam Shepard, A.R. Gurney, and Marsha Norman.

Shanley received the 2005 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play for DOUBT. The production directed by Tony Awardâ winner Doug Hughes had its world premiere Manhattan Theatre Club at New York City Center – Stage I. DOUBT subsequently transferred to Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre where it currently stars Eileen Atkins, Ron Eldard, Jena Malone, and Adriane Lenox.

The world premiere production of DEFIANCE recently announced a third extension at New York City Center – Stage I. DEFIANCE stars Chris Bauer, Chris Chalk, Margaret Colin, Stephen Lang, Trevor Long, and Jeremy Strong and is currently playing through June 4.

DOUBT and DEFIANCE are part of a trilogy of plays by Shanley.
