Michael Rubinoff and Lindsey Steinberg announced today that DOG SEES GOD: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, the hit off-Broadway play by Bert V. Royal, will have its Canadian premiere at Toronto's Six Degrees, 2335 Yonge Street, beginning March 13 for a limited four week engagement.

DOG SEES GOD asks the question "have you ever wondered what would happen to your favourite childhood comic strip characters if they grew up and went to high school?" Well, that boy in that yellow shirt would likely be saying "Good grief".

The boy with the iconic beagle, now known as "CB" is being played by Degrassi favourite, JAKE EPSTEIN. Other notable costars include Adamo Ruggiero as "Van", MIKE LOBEL as "Matt" and PAULA BRANCATI as "Van's Sister". CB's sister will be played by Instant Star's TATIANA MASLANY. DOG SEES GOD also includes talented newcomers Ben Lewis as "Beethoven", ALEX SASLOVE as "Marcy", and SIOBHAN MURPHY as "Tricia". Dora nominated director LEZLIE WADE (A Man of No Importance, Elegies: A Song Cycle) will helm the production.

ABOUT:

After his dog's death CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister is too busy searching for her own identity; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too intoxicated to provide any sort of comfort. But a chance meeting with a forgotten friend, the target of the group's bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. Drug use, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion, and sexual identification collide and careen toward an ending that's both haunting and hopeful.

In December of 2005 the show opened Off-Broadway with an all star cast, including Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie), America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Ian Somerhalder (Lost), and Eliza Dushka (Bring It On, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). This production won Broadway.com's 2006 Audience Award for Favorite Off-Broadway Production and the 2006 HX Award for Best Play. DOG SEES GOD premiered in 2004 at the New York International Fringe Festival and went on to win the Excellence Award for Best Overall Production. The show was remounted at the Soho Playhouse and won the Theatremania's Play Award of 2004 and the GLAAD Media Award for the Best Off-Off-Broadway production.
