Coolidge Prize for Journalism Finalists Announced Today

PLYMOUTH NOTCH, Vt., Nov. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ The board of the Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation, the Presidential Foundation honoring and representing the thirtieth President of the United States, announced today the finalists for the first annual Coolidge Prize for Journalism. The $20,000 prize honors short writing of all kinds in the spirit and style of President Calvin Coolidge.

The prize will be awarded Tuesday, November 12, 2013, in New York City at a dinner featuring Paul Volcker, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve, and Larry Kudlow of CNBC. Christopher Coolidge Jeter, a great grandson of President Coolidge, will award the prize.

Coolidge valued brevity, restrained government, low tax rates, private property, states' rights, natural law and civility. "The quality and number of the applications received was astounding," Amity Shlaes, board chairman, said. "Leading journalists and Coolidge experts leapt to judge. This instant success reflects the timeliness of Coolidge's message."
