In Episode 404 of "Something New" -- a podcast that interviews multifaceted theatre artists and premieres original songs -- award-winning musical theatre writer Joel B. New sat down with Marion Abbott, creator of The Confidential Musical Theatre Project.

Marion Abbott is a graduate of Musical Theatre Performance at Sheridan College and was named one of the Twenty Most Successful Graduates of the program. She also holds her Grade Ten Voice and A.R.C.T. in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Marion has appeared in such shows as Cole, Evita, Into The Woods and Drood. Upon graduating, Marion worked at Sheridan as a member of their vocal faculty, accompanying classes, assessments and teaching students. In 2002, she opened Marion Abbott's Performing Arts Studio - a performing arts studio for ages 6+. At the studio, Marion produced and directed a myriad of productions, including All Shook Up, The Mousetrap, High School Musical, Zombie Prom and Seussical. In 2014, Marion created The Confidential Musical Theatre Project (www.confidentialmusicaltheatreproject.com) which had its debut in Toronto and expanded to 8 cities by the end of its first year. There are now franchises in 14 cities, including Los Angeles and Chicago. As a dramatist, Marion has created/produced/directed works based on the writings of Lucy Maud Montgomery (Anne and Maud, Conversations With The Ladies Of L.M. Montgomery) and No Safe Harbour by Julie Lawson, which toured to Halifax in September 2013. Marion is looking forward to working as Musical Director for Drayton Entertainment's summer pantomime Aladdin and is preparing to produce a theatre festival that celebrates Women In Musical Theatre.

For the live song portion of the episode, Ms. Abbott performed "Murder In A Minor Key" from Joel B. New's upcoming solo EPCabot Cove, a collection of theatrical pop songs inspired by the TV series Murder, She Wrote, starring Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury. This performance is also available on SoundCloud and YouTube.
"Something New" is available on iTunes, Stitcher, and TuneIn.
