Some casting has been announced for the upcoming London premiere of the Jeanine Tesori-Tony Kushner musical Caroline, or Change, which will open at The National Theatre's Lyttleton Theatre this October.

Olivier Award-winner Clive Rowe will play The Dryer and The Bus in the musical, in which its title character Caroline Thibodeaux mentally brings inanimate objects to life to relieve her boredom and express her frustration. A black maid in '60s New Orleans, Caroline feels the winds of change blowing around herself and her children, while working in the household of an affectionate Jewish family (who allow her to keep the change found in the pants of young Noah while doing the laundry).

According to Whatsonstage.com, Rowe will be joined by Angela M. Caesar as The Moon, Malinda Parris as The Washing Machine and Nataylia Roni as The Radio (with more casting to be announced).

George C. Wolfe, who directed the show on Broadway, will also direct the London production. Caroline, or Change premiered at The Public Theater before transferring to Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theater, where it opened on May 2nd, 2004 and ran for 136 performances. The ambitious musical, which features a jaggedly poetic, nearly sung-through score, netted a Tony Award for Anika Noni Rose, and also picked up five other nominations--including one for Best Musical.

Rowe is an Olivier Award-winner for his turn as Nicely Nicely Johnson in Richard Eyre's 1996 staging of Guys and Dolls. He has also appeared on West End stages in As You Like It, Simply Heavenly, Carousel, Peter Pan, Candide and The Villians' Opera--the latter four shows were also at The National Theatre.
