Clark James won a nationwide competition, sponsored by The Morton Charitable Trust, to become the Edinburgh International Festival Photographer for 2014. On Tuesday 2 December a selection of his photographs goes on show at The Hub offering a glimpse into what goes into making the Festival happen.
Clark is a young photographer based in Glasgow who studied at the Glasgow School of Art. He brings his fine art background to this documentary role to create a unique perspective on bringing something the magnitude of the Edinburgh International Festival to life.
Clark James said: 'The experience of working for the Festival has provided me with really valuable experience and contacts, and allowed me to showcase a wide range of skills to future clients. Having a keen interest in cinematography, and having trained as a designer at the Glasgow School of Art, I hope have enabled me to create complex and interesting images which will nurture people's understanding and curiosity about the International Festival.'
Fergus Linehan, Festival Director said: 'Each August, Edinburgh plays host to the most accomplished creative talents of our time. Clark has captured some wonderfully intimate moments behind the scenes and given us a glimpse into the magnitude of the preparation and performance that make this world class event possible.
'The Morton Charitable Trust plays an absolutely vital role in ensuring the Festival has this breadth of visual resource to draw on and we thank it massively for this support and vision.'
The Morton Charitable Trust collaborates with the Festival each year to award an emerging photographer this unique access and opportunity, and to mount this exhibition. Its generous support ensures this wider view of the Festival is captured for posterity.
