Clarinettist Julian Bliss Will Join the Royal Northern Sinfonia at Darlington in June
Conductor Izabelė Jankauskaitė leads a programme also featuring works by Grażyna Bacewicz and MOZART's JUPITER symphony.
Clarinettist Julian Bliss will join Royal Northern Sinfonia for a special concert at Darlington Hippodrome on Thursday 4 June. They will be performing Mozart's sublime Clarinet Concerto as part of the programme celebrating the composer's extraordinary musical journey.
Conducted by Izabelė Jankauskaitė, the evening pairs three of Mozart's most popular works with a lesser-known gem by Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz, offering audiences both familiarity and discovery in equal measure.
Mozart's Clarinet Concerto showcases the clarinet's expressive range through graceful melodies and a sublime Adagio that is among his most beloved slow movements. Julian Bliss brings his internationally acclaimed artistry to this iconic work.
The programme places concerto alongside Mozart's first and last symphonies, written 16 years apart: Symphony No. 1, written when Mozart was just eight, and Symphony No. 41, nicknamed ‘Jupiter'.
Opening the concert is Grażyna Bacewicz's Sinfonietta, a vibrant and dynamic work that lets the string section of the orchestra shine. Bacewicz was a remarkable composer and violinist who defied expectations of women in her time, even playing secret concerts in Warsaw during World War II.
