A slew of celebrities from the worlds of theatre, television, music and film have been turning out to catch the Broadway production Robert Harling's Steel Magnolias, which is currently playing at the Lyceum Theatre.

The star-studded audiences have included  Jill Clayburgh (upcoming film, Running with Scissors), Tim Curry (Broadway's Spamalot), Kyan Douglas (TV's "Queer Eye …"), Donna Hanover (former New York City first lady), Linda Hart (Broadway's Hairspray), Edward Hibbert (TV's "Frasier"), Katie Holmes ("Dawson's Creek"), Dana Ivey (Broadway's The Rivals), Chris Kattan (TV's "Saturday Night Live"), Michele Lee (Broadway's How to Succeed… and TV's "Knots Landing"), Judith Light (TV's "Who's the Boss"), Janel Maloney (TV's "The West Wing"), Margo Martindale (Million Dollar Baby), Rue McClanahan (TV's "The Golden Girls"), James McGreevey (former New Jersey Governor), Gerald McRaney (TV's "Deadwood"), Megan Mullally (TV's "Will and Grace"), Graham Norton (TV's "The Graham Norton Effect"), Chris Noth (TV's "Sex and the City"), Sarah Paulson (Broadway's The Glass Menagerie), Amanda Peet (A Lot Like Love), Martha Plimpton (Off-Broadway's Hurlyburly), Russell Simmons (hip hop mogul), Kimora Lee Simmons (model, businesswoman), Meryl Streep (Academy Award Winning Actress), Sam Wasterston (TV's "Law and Order"), and Kevin Williamson (director).

After a recent performance, Delta Burke (who plays Truvy) met a group of seventeen 'real' magnolias from Louisiana. The group greeted Burke with cheers and gave her a gift basket filled with special items from the Deep South, according to a press article.

Steel Magnolias, which is directed by Jason Moore, is receiving its Broadway premiere, although it's long-running off-Broadway production at the Lucille Lortel Theatre led to an acclaimed and popular 1989 film that starred Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Darryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts.

In addition to Burke, Broadway's Steel Magnolias features Christine Ebersole as M'Lynn, Rebecca Gayheart as Shelby, Marsha Mason as Ouiser, Lily Rabe as Annelle and Frances Sternhagen as Clairee. The play follows the lives of six indomitable Southern women as they share their personal triumphs, tragedies, beauty tips, recipes, and more than the occasional piece of scandalous gossip in Truvy's beauty shop in Chinquapin, Louisiana.

Performances are Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8pm, matinees Wednesdays at 2pm, Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets for Steel Magnolias are on sale through Telecharge.com online, by phone at (212) 239-6200, and in person at the Lyceum Theatre box office.
