Cast, Creative Team Set for Stew's Passing Strange

A cast and creative team have been assembled for Passing Strange, the new musical commissioned by the Berkeley Repertory Theatre and the Public Theater that will have its world premiere at Berkeley Rep from October 19th through December 3rd, with opening night set for October 25th.

The show features book and lyrics by singer/songwriter Stew, best known for his work with the band The Negro Problem, as well as music by Stew and Heidi Rodewald.  It will feature:  De'adre Aziza, Daniel Breaker, Eisa Davis, Colman Domingo, Chad Goodridge, and Rebecca Jones.  Annie Dorsen directs.

The show is "an exuberant stage show about an African American's search for authenticity through music. It's loaded with soulful lyrics, hook-filled melodies, sardonic insights and heartfelt passion. Developed at the Sundance Theatre Lab and making its world premiere at Berkeley Rep, the show takes us from black, middle-class America to Amsterdam, Berlin and beyond," according to Berkeley Rep's website.  The show will travel to New York for a run in January of 2007.

Passing Strange will feature sets by David Korins, costumes by Annie Smart, lighting by Kevin Adams, and sound by Jake Rodriguez.
