Alexandra Silber & More Will Lead York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading of MONET

The York Theatre Company, as part of its acclaimed Developmental Reading Series, will present a staged reading of the new musical Monet, with music and lyrics by Carmel Owen (Asylum: The Strange Case of Mary Lincoln), and book by Joan Ross Sorkin (In the Theatre). Monet will play two performances only on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (619 Lexington Avenue, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

The readings are FREE and open to the public on the day of the presentation. Advance reservations are available with a minimum suggested donation of $10.00 fee for each reading (Advance reservations are complimentary for York Theatre's Plus Members; $5 for York Theatre Members).

Directed by Alan Paul (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), with music direction by Eugene Gwozdz (Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story), the ten-member cast will feature Ken Clark (Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812), Peter Cormican (Follies), George Dvorsky (York's Closer Than Ever), Jeanne Lehman (Beauty and the Beast), Jamie LaVerdiere (The Producers), Maurice Murphy (Motown the Musical), Tom Rhoads (Buttons), Danielle Erin Rhodes (The Marvelous Wonderettes), Alexandra Silber (Fiddler on the Roof), and Price Waldman (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder).

Monet is inspired by the remarkable life of Claude Monet and the price he ultimately paid for his art. Think mystery, romance and revolution, and one painting that changed everything. The show has been in development, most recently at an evening of song and story at the French Consulate. Projection design and lighting will be added at The York to integrate the color and light of Impressionism into the drama.

The creative team includes Associate Music Director Joe Mohan, Projection Designer Lacey Erb, Lighting Designer Lucrecia Briceno, Production Stage Manager Carol A. Sullivan, and Assistant Stage Manager Ryan A. Ross.

The York's Developmental Reading Series presents over 30 readings and workshops of new musicals by emerging and established authors throughout the year, a vital part of the writing process. The strong commitment to developing new work is an important part of what makes the York unique in the musical theatre community. The series can also serve as an incubator for shows to be considered for Mainstage productions, thus serving the York's unique mission of taking new musicals through the complete development process to full production. Projects developed through the series have included Broadway's Avenue Q and In Transit and the York's Cagney, Mark Felt, Superstar, Desperate Measures, and Unexpected Joy.
