CYRANO DE BERGERAC: ADAPTED FOR THE MODERN CLOWN to Play Brooklyn This Summer
The Underground Theatre Alliance & GrannyCart Theatre production stars Michael Thomas Kennedy at Makers Ensemble in Williamsburg.
Edmond Rostand's classic gets a clown makeover in Cyrano de Bergerac: Adapted for the Modern Clown, a funny, tender, and deeply human new adaptation from The Underground Theatre Alliance and GrannyCart Theatre, running July 9th through 11th at Makers Ensemble in Williamsburg.
Written and directed by Laura Clinton and Megan Twamley, this production keeps the bones of the classic story intact: a poet who believes himself unlovable, a beautiful fool who needs help finding the right words, and a woman searching for something real in a world full of performances. Through clowning and prose, characters trip over their feelings, fight duels, write love letters, tell lies, and desperately try to be understood. Beneath all of it is a question that feels painfully familiar: What does it mean to be truly seen?
Equal parts ridiculous and heartfelt, Cyrano is a celebration of friendship, imagination, and the beautiful mess of being human.
The creative team includes co-directors Laura Clinton and Megan Twamley, fight director Nicolas Coccaro, fight captain Audrey Owen, stage manager Claudia Zurek, scenic designers Philip Matsu and Megan Twamley, sound designers Laura Clinton and Megan Twamley, and costume/makeup designer Renee Hapeman.
The cast features Michael Thomas Kennedy* as Cyrano, Funmi Adejobi as Christian, Alexandra Matsu as Roxane, Chris Consaul as De Guiche, Paolo Ragusa as Le Bret, Tom Shane as Ligniere/Ensemble, Emma Harris as Raganeau/Citizen/Ensemble, Robin Murray as Montfleury/Soldier 2/Ensemble, Fern Capone as Actor/Priest/Ensemble, and Audrey Owen as Valvert/Soldier 1/Ensemble.
