CBJC Presents Icons of Brooklyn Jazz 4/7

On Wednesday, April 7, Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium (CBJC) presents, as part of the 11th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival, an evening for the "Icons of Brooklyn Jazz" honoring legendary musicians of Brooklyn. This performance, sponsored in part by the Brooklyn Arts Council, will take place at the Sugar Hill Restaurant and Supper Club, 609 DeKalb Avenue near Nostrand Avenue, from 7 to 9:00 PM. The Icons of Brooklyn Jazz Band is lead by hard bop trumpeter Cecil Bridgewater with Donald Vega-piano, Kenny Davis-bass, Carl Allen-drums featuring Kiane Zawadi-trombone and James Spaulding- saxophone. The evening's music will pay homage to Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame members Max Roach, Kenny Dorham, Cedar Walton, and Randy Weston. This years' Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival theme, "Expressions of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" reflects on the contributions made to the jazz world by Brooklynites. The event is also part of Black Brooklyn Renaissance a project of the Brooklyn Arts Council and Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation. Brooklyn Arts Council strives to enrich the quality of life throughout Brooklyn by fostering, encouraging and promoting the arts through service and support to artists and art organizations. Black Brooklyn Renaissance is a year long celebration of African American arts and cultural expressions. The project opened with the spring 2010 series and will include events such as a Cal Massey Tribute at Brooklyn College, Hip Hop Hybrids of Brooklyn dance showcase in Williamsburg, and the Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame and Museum Induction Ceremony at Brooklyn Historical Society on Thursday, April 29.
