Fifty years of performing his own stunts has left Burt Reynolds with injuries too numerous to mention. After an in-depth consultation and examination by respected Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. David R. Campbell, Reynolds has been advised to undergo surgery to remove bone spurs. According to Campbell, the bone spurs are "impinging on Reynolds sciatic nerve, causing pressure and unbearable pain."

Reynolds is quoted as saying, “No one likes surgery, but I have no choice.”

The date of the surgery was not immediately known. Recovery time is generally expected to take between four and six weeks.
