Broward Cultural Division to Receive Art Works Grant from NEA

By:

Broward County, FL -- National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Jane Chu announced earlier this year that Broward Cultural Division is one of 21 local arts agencies nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant.

The Broward Cultural Division was recommended for a $15,000 award to support the convening of A Creative and Cultural Industries Symposium: The Future of the Latin American, Caribbean, & South Florida Economies. The Division will partner with the University of Florida and Broward College to present the Symposium on May 20th, 2016 during the University of Florida's Brazilian Music Institute at Broward College's Central Campus.

NEA Chairman Jane Chu said, "I'm pleased to be able to share the news of our support through Art Works including the award to the Broward Cultural Division. The arts foster value, connection, creativity and innovation for the American people and these recommended grants demonstrate those attributes and affirm that the arts are part of our everyday lives."

The program will build upon the earlier work done by the Division in the spring of 2014, continuing to collaborate with the Inter-American Development Bank's (IDB) Cultural, Solidarity and Creativity Affairs Division and the Center for Latin American and Latino Studies at American University, surrounding the IDB report: 'The Orange Economy.'

"Last year this symposium was a phenomenal success in information exchanged," says Broward Cultural Division Director Earl Bosworth. "Through the 2014 panel we gained invaluable knowledge about the creative influence of this Latin and Caribbean demographic. With South Florida's proximity to these areas, as well as its own diversity within, there seems to be a natural partnership to be explored and we are determined to continue moving it forward."
