In this new musical based on the best-selling children's book by Melinda Long, Jeremy's talent for building sand castles and digging moats has earned him a place on the crew of Braid Beard's ship. It's a grand adventure, indeed, until Jeremy remembers all the things that he left behind. Surely the pirates can be convinced to take him home! Composers/lyrists/playwrights Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman join forces with the renowned Omaha Theater Company to bring this swashbuckling treasure hunt to life. How I Became a Pirate is directed by Queens Theater in the Park's Rob Urbinati. With its unique blend of spellbinding storytelling, irresistible pirate songs, and bold choreography, this production will take audiences on an unforgettable "journey through the high seas."

The centerpiece of BCBC's 2012-2013 family programming, the new Target Storybook Series features performances based on classic and contemporary children's literature. In addition to How I Became a Pirate, this series includes The Little Prince (January 27, 2013 at 2pm), and American Family Theater's Sleeping Beauty (March 10, 2013 at 2pm). The Target Storybook Series aims to encourage the development of strong reading skills at home in children ages four to eight. Each show's Parents' Guide, containing literacy-based activity sheets, reading tips, and discussion topics, gives parents the opportunity to engage their children both before and after seeing each show. Parents' Guides are available for download at www.BrooklynCenterOnline.org/Target_Storybook.asp. All seats for BCBC's 2012-2013 Target Storybook Series are $7.
