The New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA) announced today, April 27, that the Bronx Week Food and Arts Festival will host the 27th Annual Bronxboro Arm Wrestling Championships and crowning of The Bronx Strongest Arm on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Bronx Week Festival on Mosholu Parkway South between Van Cortlandt Ave. East and Bainbridge Ave. Bronx, NY. 10458. First time beginners and festival spectators will have an opportunity to compete FREE and general admission is FREE.  

The Bronxboro consists of both right and left hand pro and amateur categories for men and women. In addition, there are a boys and girls; 17 years open class, with a parent or guardian signature required. There will be first, second and third place awards in each weight class plus, the day’s strongest male and female MVP’s will be crowned Bronx Strongest Arms and receive $100 cash prizes. There will also be team competition broKen Down by borough, state, and country with the team winner being determined through a point tally. Contestants are encouraged to register/weigh-in before noon. There are no residency requirements.

More than 100 athletes will participate including last year’s Bronxboro defending champions. Among those expected to take part in the event is current Empire State Champion Mirline Berrouet from So. Ozone Park, NY.  Another champion expected to compete is current New York City's “King of Arms” Giorgi Gelashvili from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn who was unbeaten last year; defeating some of the best arm wrestlers in the world. The Bronxboro Championships is part of the multi-event NY Golden Arm Series where up to seven events are held if sponsorship permits in each of the five NYC Boroughs and Long Island  and culminates into the Empire State Finale, to be held this year on Nov. 18 at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC,

 “This is the premier Bronx arm wrestling tournament and draws some of the best pro arm wrestling talent in the New York tri-state area and from far away as Turkey and Russia,” said Gene Camp, founder and president of the 33 year-old NYAWA.  Pros and amateurs alike will display an exciting one-on-one competition with awesome feats of strength, merciless demonstrations of power and explosive raw energy in front of a large captive-cheering audience.  Camp also pointed out; “Since the NYAWA’s long time sponsor-partner is unable to participate in our 2010 program this year, we are now looking for a new sponsor.
