Times Square WiFi
by Robert Diamond - June 02, 2010

Here's what I consider to be some of the best news to hit the theatre district in weeks -- late last week AT&T announced the launch of an AT&T Wi-Fi "hotzone" in Times Square. It's historically been one of the worst spots in the city with dropped calls and slow Internet speeds so for someone who likes being connected and is often in midtown -- every bit helps.

The release notes that "AT&T has installed Wi-Fi service in the north central part of Times Square, near 7th Avenue between 45th and 47th Street." All AT&T wireless devices - phones, cards, iPads, etc. can use the new faster Internet which should improve cell network congestion.

Also worth noting - the press release even recognizes Broadway - "Whether they're emailing photos and videos to friends back home, downloading a restaurant review, or ordering discount Broadway tickets online, people in Times Square want the mobile broadband connection that lets them get the most done in the least amount of time," said John Donovan, AT&T chief technology officer.
